Pioneering a new type of vehicle, Yamaha has developed their four wheeled Tesseract which turns just like a motorcycle but has a Dual Scythe Suspension for improved safety.
Roughly the equivalent width of a regular motorcycle, the Tesseract is a hybrid vehicle powered by a liquid cooled V-twin 2 cylinder gasoline engine and an electric engine thus reducing emissions and protecting the environment.
With a mantis like appearance, the dual scythe suspension allows stable turning while still allowing for motorcycle like banking. Built into the upper arms of the vehicle is a dual arm lock system which lets the Tesseract stand upright when parked without a kick-stand.
Currently only a concept model, Yamaha plans to continue researching this design in the future.

He was tall, looked fit in his spandex bicycling gear and — the reason we were a bit nervous — he was glaring at the little silver roadster with distaste. Had we inadvertently forced him off the road on one of our passes while photographing the electric-powered 2008 Tesla Roadster? No. His problem, it turns out, is that the car is “too quiet.” The Tesla, clean and silent but for the hiss of tires on asphalt and the whine of the electric motor’s cooling fan, disturbed him because he didn’t hear it coming as we scooted by him on a twisty section of Skyline Boulevard in the mountains above Tesla’s headquarters in San Carlos, California.

The Korea Electric Vehicle Challenge took place outside Seoul with ZAP and Samyang Optics entering two vehicles under development, the Alias electric car and the electric A380 SUV.
This was ZAP’s first public demonstration of the Alias and SUV. ZAP’s two 100 percent electric vehicles drove in a 200km/124.3mi route at average speeds of 85kph or 52.8mph as part of an EV Challenge representing the Korean electric vehicle industry.
The three-day event includes an Eco Fair where the ZAP vehicles are scheduled to appear in parades and in an exhibition of fuel efficient vehicles and other consumer products.
ZAP was hosted by Samyang Optics in their ongoing partnership to distribute electric vehicles in Korea. The Korean government has announced support and investment in electric vehicles over the next few years. Several government and business leaders spoke at the opening ceremony for the event, including Korean ministers, congressmen, representatives from the Korean Elecctric Vehicle Association, as well as Samyang CEO Christopher Kang and ZAP CEO Steve Schneider.
The electric SUV is based on a partnership between ZAP and auto manufacturer Zhejiang Jonway Automobile Co. Ltd. using the A380 5-door SUV targeting the China fleet market. The ZAP Alias electric car is entered in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize taking place this year. For more information visit http://zapalias.wordpress.com.
Thank you to ZAP CEO Steve Schneider for providing the video, ZAP EV Tech and Driver Aubre Decker, and Brad Moore of ZAP Marketing for producing the video.

It might look like an ordinary S-Class, but make no mistake, because the 2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHybrid represents a major step in the development of the hybrid luxury car.
This prototype is Mercedes-Benz’s belated answer to the Lexus LS 600h L — a gasoline-electric hybrid that delivers a combined 299 horsepower along with average fuel consumption just shy of 30 mpg. It also heralds some of the most advanced battery technology ever applied to a series production car.

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid Super Race Car First Look Geneva Motor Show 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid to Celebrate World Debut in Geneva Porsche AG will unveil the 911 GT3 R hybrid on March 4th in Geneva, exactly 110 years after Ferdinand Porsche developed the world’s first car with hybrid drive, the Lohner Porsche Semper Vivus. This will open a new chapter in the history of Porsche with more than 20,000 wins in 45 years scored by the extremely successful Porsche 911 in racing trim. The innovative hybrid technology featured in the car has been developed especially for racing, standing out significantly in its configuration and components from conventional hybrid systems. The car features electrical front axle drive with two electric motors developing 60 kW each supplements the 480-bhp four-litre flat-six at the rear of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. A further significant point is that instead of the usual batteries in a hybrid road car, an electrical flywheel power generator fitted in the interior next to the driver delivers energy to the electric motors.
